M.E.Ch.A. Statewide is a student-led non-profit organization, with over Seventy chapters in Oregon and Southwest Washington, whose goals are to:

Promote educational excellence

Build leadership in Latine students and all its members

Form a community of students that participate in community service and civic involvement

Create a sense of belonging through cultural enrichment
HISTORY.
1994 – M.E.Ch.A. Statewide was established in response to increasing dropout rates and the lack of initiatives supporting the advancement of Latine high school students in Oregon. It became the first formal M.E.Ch.A. organization created outside of the college campus setting.
1995 – Building on this foundation, M.E.Ch.A. Statewide evolved with the support of educators, community members, college students, and professionals. The organization was originally founded at four college chapters: Portland State University, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and Portland Community College – Rock Creek.
Growth & Impact – M.E.Ch.A. Statewide soon expanded to oversee and coordinate programs for Middle School and High School Chapters across Oregon and Southwest Washington. The organization provides leadership training, organizes quarterly officer meetings, hosts the Annual Statewide Conference, and leads scholarship seminars.
2016 – To better reflect its scope, the board voted to add Oregon to its name, becoming OR MEChA Statewide.
Today – OR MEChA Statewide continues its mission of uplifting Latine youth, strengthening leadership, and advancing equity and education across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Serving as a support system for both high school and middle school chapters and their advisors, we remain committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders.
